Organic Zendalas (OZ) by Jacki Rose, CZT
Let go of the outcome, stay in the present moment, and allow your inner artist to come through to organically create a Zentangle® Zendala, remembering to relax and have fun.
No measuring tools! Let go of symmetry & focus on the present moment allowing your inner artist to come through.
Tangle along with the sample video, view the step-outs and check out the photos of each below.
The Zendala acts as the Zentangle® string to fill in with any tangles you like. Get Zendala Paper Tiles from Zentangle.com or trace a DVD/CD onto a page in your sketchbook. You may also use any shape, size, paper you want.
Relax, have fun and appreciate what you create!

If tracing a Zendala tile on an Opus Tile, follow the first 3 steps in the first column. If drawing on a Zendala tile, follow the first 3 steps in the second column. After completing either option of the first 3 steps, continue to step 4. Towards the end, you can choose if you want to bring through the leaves or not (to hollibaugh or not to hollibaugh is up to you).
Recording available with "Opus" package. See photo below & on the Opus Recordings page...
Using the original Zentangle pattern Gneiss, I created this Zendala using it in the middle as well as the outer layer. No recording. See photo of completed tile in gallery below.
Trace 3.5" Zentangle paper tile onto a Zendala paper tile as shown. Tracing twice. Once in a Diamond shape the other in a square. Or, you can just skip the tracing of any shape and start with the lines (shown in box 2) any size you like. The photo below shows it on an Opus tile with additional layers. Next to is a photo of a variation of this design. No recording.
Draw on a Zentangle square or round paper tile (Zendala). Recording available in the "Over 100" package. See photo below or #84 on recordings page...
Photo below with many added layers that are drawn organically. Looping any where and any way you like in hollibaugh style (going under & connecting). No recording.
This was originally done on an Opus tile which is why it is called Opusdala. Recording available in the Opus package. View photo here from class recording 3-30-23...
Named Simdala for simple since each layer is repeated with simple steps. See photo below. No recording.
Named after the pattern Kuke which is one of the middle tangles, but you can choose any tangles you like. Recording available in the "Over 100" package.
